Ric Smith first penned the letters about life, love, faith, marriage and other matters important to young adults for an audience of one.

Smith, an Opelika resident and professor in the School of Communication and Journalism at Auburn University, wrote the letters for his son, Harry, - "not so much as an instruction manual, but something to think about." They were letters that Harry, now 22 and a recent Auburn graduate, referenced as he moved from his teenage years into adulthood.
