Harvey Updyke Jr., the University of Alabama fan accused of poisoning the Toomer’s Oaks, has returned to Louisiana under the supervision of his daughter after a judge granted his release Wednesday under additional bond conditions.

During a hearing in Lee County Circuit Court on Wednesday, Judge Jacob A. Walker III granted Updyke’s release following completion of a mental examination at Taylor Hardin Secure Medical Facility in Tuscaloosa to determine his competency to stand trial.
