Auburn-Opelika’s unemployment rate rose from December to January

The unemployment rate for the Auburn-Opelika area is rising, according to preliminary numbers the Alabama Department of Labor released Monday.

The January preliminary rate, which is at 6.7 percent, is a whole point above the revised December rate for the Auburn-Opelika area, which was 5.7 percent then. The percentage represents 4,540 unemployed persons in the area in January, above 3,967 in December.
