Courtney Lockhart sentenced
Courtney Lockhart was sentenced to death by lethal injection. An appeals court has upheld that sentence.

On March 4, 2008, Auburn Police responded to a call of an injured female on Alabama Highway 147 (North College Street). Officers found a woman, later identified as 18-year-old Lauren Burk, an Auburn University student, suffering from a single gunshot wound. Burk later died at East Alabama Medical Center.

The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals has affirmed Courtney Lockhart’s conviction and death sentence for the 2008 murder of Auburn University student Lauren Burk.
In the 196-page opinion, which was released Friday, the court determined that “Lockhart's conviction for murder made capital because it was committed during a robbery” and that the death sentence was “affirmed.”
