A buffalo that had wandered loose in Smiths Station Tuesday was euthanized by veterinary staff at Auburn University.

According to Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones, a call was received at 9:30 a.m. from a resident on Lee Road 213 claiming that there was a buffalo in her yard. A unit quickly arrived at the scene and monitored the buffalo until 11:30 a.m. to confirm that it wouldn’t be a traffic hazard or that it would not be a threat to anyone in the area. During this time, the buffalo crossed a number of streets.
