A Montgomery man charged with opening fire and killing three people at an Auburn party last year is scheduled to go to trial in April.

During a status hearing Tuesday afternoon, Circuit Judge Jacob A. Walker set a trial in the capital murder case against Desmonte Leonard for the week of April 14, with a status hearing scheduled for Jan. 29. Leonard is accused of allegedly killing three people and wounding three others during a shooting at University Heights apartments in Auburn June 9, 2012. DeMario Pitts of Opelika and former Auburn University football players Ladarious Phillips and Ed Christian lost their lives, while former AU football player Eric Mack and Roanoke natives Xavier Moss and John Q. Robertson were injured.
