They say that great minds think alike. And now getting them together just got a little easier thanks to a new Web site recently launched by one Auburn man.

It’s called Club Auburn and it’s one of the latest ways for Auburn and Opelika’s clubs, groups, guilds and societies (excluding businesses) to get connected.

“This is basically a club directory,” said Heath Cates, 26, creator of the Club Auburn Web site.

“Any club in Auburn or Opelika can list their information for free. Hopefully this site will give people with similar interests a place where they can connect.”

In addition to club listings and group information, the Club Auburn site also features local news and provides each club or group with their own forum or message board, which they may use to communicate with other club members.

The site also provides each club with a calendar that can be instantly updated if need be.

Area businesses may purchase advertising space on Club Auburn as well.

The idea for Club Auburn is one Cates came up with after moving to Auburn from Birmingham and trying to find others who shared his love of computers and constructing Web sites.

“I couldn’t find any clubs that shared the same interests in the hobbies I had, so I simply created one,” said Cates, owner of Protech (yesprotechcan.com), an Auburn computer business.

Club Auburn officially launched in 2008 and has about 50 club and group listings so far.

All types of clubs and groups are welcomed to use the Web site, but Cates hopes that users will help keep the site “family friendly.”

“Hopefully this is something the entire community will benefit from,” said Cates.
