The bill is a proposed constitutional amendment that would remove the state’s 4 percent grocery sales tax and would raise the threshold where a family of four starts paying the state income tax from $12,600 to $20,000 in annual income.

Opelika firefighters contain sawdust fire at cabinetmaker
Opelika firefighters were able to contain a sawdust fire at Van Nostrand Cabinet on Wednesday afternoon to an outside hopper. One firefighter received a minor injury to his hand, but was able to return to work later that day.

Nowlin: No large-scale layoff
