A pie-baking contest and a parade featuring decorated bikes, trikes and wagons are among the activities planned for the Opelika Main Street “Summer Celebration” Friday in downtown Opelika.
Railroad Avenue, Eighth Street and Avenue A will be closed from 5:30 to 9 p.m. for the event. The parade begins at 6 p.m. and will start at the corner of Avenue A and Eighth Street.
Children and adults are invited to decorate a bicycle, tricycle or wagon and join the parade. The best decorated parade entry will receive a prize from Canine American.
A homemade pie contest will also be held at the event. After the top-three pies are selected, all of the contest entries will be sold by the slice. Entry forms for the pie contest are available at downtown businesses and on the Opelika Main Street Web site, http://www.opelikamainstreet.org.
Other food such as homemade ice cream and watermelon will be available at the annual summer event.
In addition, children can have balloon hats or animals made by D R Magic. They can also have their hair braided and colored at the event.
Musical entertainment will be provided by D. J. Ozz.
Proceeds from Summer Celebration will go to Opelika Main Street.
