Auburn police received a report of a possibly foiled burglary Monday evening, Auburn police Capt. Tom Stofer said.

“A 13-year-old boy was working in his yard when he saw a couple suspicious individuals in or near the yard,” Stofer said. “He went to see what they wanted. When he was doing that, one of them pointed a gun at him. Then, they took off running.”

Police believe the two young men were trying to break into the boy’s house on Lee Road 25 in Auburn, Stofer said. The father of the boy, who filed the report, said the back doorknob appears to have been tampered with, he said.

“We believe they might have been trying to break into the house when the 13-year-old made contact with them,” Stofer said.

No injuries were reported.

The case remains under investigation.
