The Monday night death of a 10-year-old Auburn girl is under investigation, according to a statement released by Auburn police.
The girl was at home with family when police were called to the 1300 block of Teaberry Court at 11:35 p.m., Auburn police Capt. Tom Stofer said.
The unresponsive girl was taken by ambulance to East Alabama Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 1:14 a.m., according to the statement. The girl had apparently been feeling ill for several days.
Auburn police, the Lee County Coroner’s Office and the Alabama Department of Forensic Science Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating the case.
Coroner Bill Harris said Tuesday he was waiting for autopsy results to determine the cause of death.
“At this time, it does not appear be any bad contagious disease floating around,” Harris said. “We’re not suspecting to make that finding.”
