The Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to an incident in Smiths Station Tuesday morning that left one man dead and another behind bars.

“Officers got the call about 11 a.m. from the residence at 899 Lee Road 292 in Smiths Station,” Sheriff Jay Jones said.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they were met by Mike Britton, 57, a resident at the address, Jones said. Deputies discovered Bryan Hurst, 32, with a single gunshot wound to the chest. The coroner pronounced Hurst dead at the scene, Jones said.

Jones said Britton was taken into custody and will be charged with one count of murder with a bond to be set later.

“At this point in our investigation, we believe the shooting resulted from a domestic issue,” Jones said.

Deputies responded to a call at the residence Monday in reference to the victim being involved in an assault on Britton’s daughter, Jones said. Deputies recovered a 20-gauge shotgun at the scene of the incident, Jones said.

My symphathy to both families.  Put yourself in the fathers place, would you not protect your child in anyway you could.  Yes the father took the law in his own hands, but there is a very thin line between sane and insane, especially when it comes to your child being hurt.  If this gentlemen felt he had to hit on someone, I am sure the father would have rather fought him than have his daughter hurt physically and mentally.

Hurst was a all around good dude, He worked hard, took care of his kids, and was willling to help anyone that needed it. He always made people laugh and was the kind of guy, that if you needed something you could count on his help. He will be deeply missed.

I heard that the daughters head looked like a punching bag. Now, I do not know these people, but I do know that whatever this girl did, she did not deserve being beat like that.
I would have properly done the same thing her father did, had it been one of my kids. MEN CANNOT BEAT ON WOMEN!!!
