Hurtsboro Police Chief Marvin Christian is scheduled to appear in court on July 23 to faces charges stemming from a weekend incident, according to the Bullock County Sheriff’s Department.
Christian was arrested Saturday morning in Union Springs and charged with one count of domestic violence third degree and kidnapping first degree.
“It appears that Christian and a young lady were involved in a relationship,” said Chief Clarence Wheeler of the Union Springs Police Department, the jurisdiction in which Christian was arrested.
After hearing that the woman was at a nightclub, Christian reportedly went to the nightclub, located the woman and forced her into his vehicle at which time after riding around, he pulled a gun on the woman, threatening to kill her and himself, according to Wheeler. Other motorists phoned the Union Springs Police Department who ultimately took Christian into custody.
Christian has since been released on $21,000 bond, according to Wheeler.
Phone calls to the Hurtsboro Police Department by the Opelika-Auburn News Monday and Tuesday went unanswered.
There is approximately 20 miles separating the cities of Hurtsboro and Union Springs.
The incident is still under investigation, according to Wheeler, who said he is saddened to see a fellow officer in this situation.
“It’s hard to imagine someone sworn to protect and serve out there doing something like this,” Wheeler said.
