A late morning wreck that backed up traffic for miles in the northbound lanes of I-85 in Troup County, Georgia, has been cleared, according to the state Department of Transportation. All traffic lanes are open.
The wreck occurred about 10:50 Alabama time. It involved two tractor-trailers and resulted in the closing of all northbound lanes.
Traffic quickly backed up toward East Alabama. As the stalled traffic reached more than five miles in length, people left their cars to chat and relax. Some broke out lawn chairs.
A DOT spokesman said there was one injury in the accident. It also resulted in a minor fuel spill.
The wreck was cleared and traffic began to move again at 12:43 Alabama time, the DOT said.
