- The City of Auburn and the Auburn Veterans Committee will host the 10th Annual Mayor’s Memorial Day Breakfast at 8 a.m., Monday, May 26 at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center. Tickets are $20 each or $200 for a table. Proceeds from ticket sales go to the Auburn
Veterans Memorial Fund. First Lieutenant Douglas J. Watson will be this year’s guest of honor and the recipient of the 2008 Distinguished Veteran Award. Following the breakfast (10 a.m.), Auburn will hold a memorial wreath laying ceremony at the Auburn Veterans Memorial Monument, at the northeast corner of Ross Street and Glenn Avenue in Auburn, according to the city’s Web site, http://www.auburnalabama.org.
- The City of Opelika will host its annual Memorial Day Services at 10 a.m., Monday, May 26 at the Veterans’ Memorial at Opelika City Hall, at 204 South Seventh Street in Opelika. The guest speaker for the event will be
Retired Sgt. 1st Class David K. Dismukes, according to the city’s Web site, http://www.opelika.org.
