BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) _ Ninety-three Alabama military men and women who died on Sept. 11, 2001, and in the war since then, were honored during a Memorial Day remembrance at the Alabama Veterans Memorial off Interstate 459 in Birmingham.
The name of each person who died on Sept. 11 or during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom were read aloud Sunday by a pair of Boy Scouts.
The Veterans Memorial is home to a Hall of Honor that also has the names engraved of the more than 11,000 Alabamians who died as the result of previous wars. The 2001 terrorist attacks killed almost 3,000 people in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.
