Phelps group plans protest at Burk funeral

Westboro Baptist Church, a group known for protesting and picketing funerals and memorials of fallen soldiers, is planning to picket at the Sunday afternoon funeral of 18-year-old Auburn freshman Lauren Burk, according to the group’s Web site. Burk was killed Tuesday night. Police are investigating her death as a murder.
Westboro Baptist Church, established in 1955, is an Kansas-based organization lead by Pastor Fred Phelps.
The group is also planning to picket the funeral of Eve Carson, UNC student body president who was killed Wednesday morning.
Both funerals are listed on the WBC site’s online picket schedule for Sunday.

I do not understand why. She was killed. So was the UNC student. These people (Phelps, etc.) need to get a life.

It is a sad commentary when groups like this name the name of Messiah, and preach hate and violence. You have to be so full of hate to do such insensitive, ignorant acts. If you think for one minute that G-d is pleased, my condolences to you should you leave this earth without repenting. The G-d I know does not hate, “For G-d so loved the world that He gave His only beggotten son...” Not “For G-d so hated the world...” No, G-d does not approve of behavior that is not in keeping with his mitzvot (commandments), but He loves the sinner. So, rest assured WBC, the pot can’t call the kettle black. I pray you realize that what you’re doing is very un-G-d-like, and repent before it’s too late for you.

The hypocrites from Kansas make me sick. They claim to be “Christian” but I only see and hear hate in every message they make. That is not what Jesus taught His Church. How dare they use His name to promote their hatred AND use an innocent woman’s funeral to preach their hatred. Maybe they will step out of line so the Cobb County and Marietta Police can throw them in jail.
I pray for Lauren’s friends and family and pray for God to allow her into Heaven.
BTW, Auburngrad: There will be some people there at the funeral to block the Westboro nutcases. I know some people who are not part of the Auburn family who will show up to block the twerps. I just hope this will not turn into a fiasco. That is not what Lauren’s friends and family needs.

I have friends who ride with the Georgia Patriot Guard. The Guard is planning a flag line to shield Lauren’s family and friends.

I am truly embarrassed as a Baptist, a Christian, and the mother of one of Lauren’s sorority sisters. What does this fanatic group protest? Is it life or death? Please don’t give them the attention they are seeking!!!!!

When this group protested at recent military funerals in the area, some bikers showed up at one and some vets and soldiers at another, to stand between the protestors and the family and motorcade.
They legally stood where they were supposed to, but in front of Phelps’ detestible and despicable group.
I wonder if there would be enough people willing to, with respect, do the same in Marietta and Athens?
