Deputies are looking for a man they say forced his way into a Phenix City woman’s house Thursday morning, hit her and attempted to sexually assault her, according to a statement released by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
The assault happened at the 27-year-old woman’s Huntington Hills house off Pierce Road in Phenix City, Lee County, just after 7 a.m., according to the statement.
“Basically, he was knocking on her door, and she looks out and sees an unknown man,” sheriff’s office Capt. Van Jackson said. “He continues banging on the door, so she cracks the door to see what he wants, and he forces himself into the house.”
The man hit her with his fist and attempted to sexually assault her, the statement said. Deputies arrived just after the man fled the house, possibly in a dark 1997 or 1998 Nissan Altima, according to the statement.
He is described as a black man in his late 20s, approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall, roughly 200 pounds, with a muscular build and wearing a navy blue cut-off sleeve shirt and silver or white gym shorts.
Jackson recommended residents be cautious when answering the door, making sure they can see the person knocking.
“I can’t emphasize more: If you don’t know the person outside the door, make sure you do not open the door,” he said.
Anyone with information about the incident or the man’s identity should call Lee County Crime Stoppers, which is offering a reward, at 1-888-522-7847.
