Editor’s Note: This is the first in a series about places in the Lee County area and the faces that visit them.
It may be a small space in the heart of Auburn, but Felton Little Park is just right for those who visit to play.
The park just off West Glenn Avenue sees teams practice on ball fields, residents relax on benches, and children play on the playground.
Sunday, Auburn resident Kristy Peralta watched her 3-year-old daughter, Jasmine, climb a slide in the playground.
Peralta went to Auburn University and came back to the city in 2001. She said she likes what the park has to offer.
“She likes to be outside, and it’s got the swings and slides,” Peralta said. “During the summer, we come … every other week.” From nearby bleachers, Darin Johnson watched his daughter practice softball with her team.
“We come out here probably three times a week for games and practice,” he said.
Johnson’s family recently moved to Auburn from Chicago, and he said he’s impressed with the city’s parks and facilities. “For the size of the town, this is awesome,” he said.
At the edge of another field, Tina Simile, too, watched her daughter practicing.
The cozy park provides something for different ages, she said. “You get to come here and watch the kids play,” she said.
Her grandchildren like to play on the nearby playground slides and swings.
“It’s nice and clean, and it’s just enough for little children to do,” she said.
