Attempted burglary reported
Auburn police received a report of a possibly foiled burglary Monday evening, Auburn police Capt. Tom Stofer said.
“A 13-year-old boy was working in his yard when he saw a couple suspicious individuals in or near the yard,” Stofer said. “He went to see what they wanted. When he was doing that, one of them pointed a gun at him. Then, they took off running.”
Police believe the two young men were trying to break into the house on Lee Road 25 in Auburn, Stofer said. The father of the boy, who filed the report, said the back doorknob appears to have been tampered with, he said.
“We believe they might have been trying to break into the house when the 13-year-old made contact with them,” Stofer said.
No injuries were reported.
The case remains under investigation.
Police investigating possible sexual abuse
The Department of Human Resources filed a report with Auburn police Monday saying a 3-year-old boy could possibly have been the victim of sexual abuse, Auburn police Capt. Tom Stofer said.
The possible offender is a family acquaintance, and the reported abuse is said to have taken place at the mother’s residence, he said.
The reported abuse took place sometime between June 16 and June 21, according to the report.
Detectives are looking into the case, Stofer said.
