One man faces multiple charges after allegedly robbing a group of men and then having the tables turned on him.

Wednesday evening, Valley Police Department officers were called to Boyd Circle where they discovered a fight in progress between six Hispanic men and a black man, according to a release. After officers brought the situation under control, Gregory Felix Brooks, 44, of Valley was transported to George H. Lanier Hospital for treatment of several lacerations.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the group of Hispanic men were in their yard on Richmond Street when they were approached by two black men, one of whom drew a handgun and demanded money, according to police. Afterward, the two suspects fled the scene on foot toward Boyd Street.

The Hispanic men got in a truck and followed the two suspects, catching up with one of them on Boyd Circle at which point, according to police, Brooks pulled a knife, began swinging it, and a fight ensued.

Brooks has been charged with four counts of robbery first degree.

The second suspect in the robbery, who is still at large, is described as a black man, between 5-feet, 6-inches and 5-feet, 9-inches in height, according to the release. He is thin, and was wearing his hair in dreadlocks and had a small amount of facial hair. He is also described as wearing a black pullover shirt, white T-shirt and black jeans.

“While cases like this are a recurrent problem in other areas, this is the first time something like this has happened in our area to my knowledge,” said Valley police Capt. Mike Reynolds.

The Lanett Police Department, Chambers County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama State Troopers also assisted in the case.
