A high-speed chase that began in Chambers County came to an abrupt end on a Lee County road Thursday afternoon.
According to police, when a Valley Police officer attempted stop Edwin Dennis of Hamilton, Ga., for a speeding violation, Dennis lead officers on a 15-minute chase that ended on Lee County Road 279 when Dennis lost control of his vehicle and it overturned.
During the pursuit, Dennis threw several bags of a powdered substance from the window of the late-model Buick along roadways in both Chambers and Lee counties, according to Valley police. The car is registered to Dennis.
Dennis sustained minor injuries in the accident and was transported to George H. Lanier Hospital in Valley for treatment before being booked into the Chambers County Jail, according to Valley police Capt. Mike Reynolds.
In addition to numerous traffic violations, Reynolds said other charges against Dennis are pending.
The vehicle Dennis was driving at the time of his arrest also contained several items with serial numbers that had been obscured or removed, Reynolds said.
Reynolds added that Dennis does have a criminal record. Dennis was recently released from prison in November 2007 after serving time for manufacturing methamphetamine. Reynolds said Dennis told police his prior record was a factor in his attempt to elude authorities.
“We’re just happy no citizens or officers were hurt, in this incident,” Reynolds said.
