A woman was injured after she was the victim of a strong-arm robbery Monday morning outside a bank in Opelika, according to police.
The woman was in the parking lot at Regions Bank in the 2400 block of Gateway Drive prior to making a commercial deposit for Grub Mart No. 21 when she was approached by a man around 11:24 a.m., according to Opelika police Capt. Allan Elkins.
After the man approached the woman, a struggle ensued between them, Elkins said. The man then took an undisclosed amount of money from the woman and left the parking lot on foot, Elkins said.
The man went into a wooded area behind the bank and entered the parking lot of Fredericks Funeral Home, where he got into the passenger side of a dark blue PT Cruiser, Elkins said.
The man is described as a black man, about 6-foot, 2-inches tall and 160 pounds, wearing a black stocking cap, dark jeans and a dark jacket.
The victim was treated for cuts and bruises, Elkins said.
Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to call the Opelika Police Department’s Secret Witness Hotline at 745-8665, investigative services at 705-5221 or the department’s main number at 705-5200.
