Beulah wreck holds up traffic
A two-vehicle wreck is holding up traffic on Lee Road 379 near the Long Bridge in Beulah, Lee County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Van Jackson said. State troopers are handling the scene and working to clear it, he said.

Rape reported Thursday in Opelika
An alleged rape was reported Thursday morning at a residence in the 1000 block of York Avenue in Opelika, according to authorities. The report states the rape involved a 15-year-old victim and an 18-year-old suspect and reportedly occurred at 7:10 a.m., Sept. 4, according to Opelika police Capt. Allan Elkins.

Study: Workers to pay more for health care
A survey being released Thursday by the Mercer consulting firm found 59 percent of companies intend to keep down rising health care costs in 2009 by raising workers’ deductibles, copays or out-of-pocket spending limits.
