22-year-old man killed in motorcycle accident

A 22-year-old Columbus, Ga., man was killed Thursday night after he apparently drove his motorcycle the wrong way on U.S. Highway 280 in Phenix City. Charles Daniel Hillhouse was driving a 1996 Honda CB750 motorcycle east in the westbound lane of U.S. Highway 280 when he struck several vehicles, according to Lee County Coroner Bill Harris.

A driver in Opelika reported his car was stolen at gunpoint by someone he had given a ride to early Thursday morning, according to police. The victim reported he was driving a 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis when a passenger pulled a gun on him and then took the vehicle, according to Opelika police Capt. Allan Elkins.

Name of pedestrian killed on Interstate 85 in Opelika still pending

More than 12 hours after a 51-year-old man was struck and killed on Interstate 85 Wednesday, Lee County Coroner Bill Harris was still trying to reach the man’s family and was unable to release the name. The name of the man will not be released until his family is reached, Harris said.
