Brittany Branyon: Tuesday was a proud day for Americans
Never before have I felt so proud to be an American. It’s not based on who I voted for or the outcome of the election. There is just something beautiful that Americans, for the most part, have come together and crossed all kinds of lines – party, race, and otherwise to voice what they believe is best for our country.

Brittany Branyon: Look closer at the pills we consume
My mother recently underwent surgery, and because of this was put on some pretty serious pain medication for a few days.

Brittany Branyon: Consumers share part of the blame, too
Many people think that college students are just party animals and binge studiers, kids living off of Mommy and Daddy’s money without a care in the world.

Brittany Branyon: Auburn’s commitment a landmark
Last Tuesday, Sept. 9, was a big day for Auburn University. But chances are you might not know why.

Brittany Branyon: Let’s not trash our city on weekends
Driving through campus Sunday, I couldn’t help but notice the aftermath of Saturday’s football game. Judging by the hundreds of Lays potato chip bags and other remnants of tailgating, one might think we are a town full of slobs.

Brittany Branyon: State emerges as new energy pioneer
Many were astonished when oilman T. Boone Pickens came out about the climate crisis and, more specifically, renewable energy.

Brittany Branyon: Let’s find a bright side to high gas prices
When my friends start complaining about the high gas prices I respond, “It’s about time!” They then look at me with confused disgust long enough for an explanation.

Brittany Branyon: I’m not a Commie; I’m a true patriot
Last night I was called a communist. The reasons? For one, I am reading “The Reluctant Fundamentalist,” and my friend took the Islamic symbol of the crescent moon and star in the title as the frequent symbol of Communism. The real humdinger?

Do you know where that steak you just ate came from? If so, job well done, you are few and far between.

Brittany Branyon: What’s wrong with people’s individuality?
I am the first to say I am privileged to be a white middle-class young woman. As I am quick to remind people, I have never been called an acceptation to my race, though I have kindly been called a “ball- buster” as well as other derogatory terms not suitable for print.

Brittany Branyon: Don’t make excuses, just get involved
I think everyone will agree that my generation knows little about the importance of volunteering. Not because we are inherently lazy and self-centered as a whole, but because it has never been a central issue.

Brittany Branyon: ‘Juicy Campus’ makes college look tacky
Recently, during pre-class chitchat, my friend Lara mentioned the newest rubbish to hit the World Wide Web. The online university black book known as “Juicy Campus” is evidence that there are still major problems with race and gender relations, as well as other issues, among my generation.

Brittany Branyon: ‘Aliens’ have same hopes and dreams as others
My friend Jorge came over to hang out the other night, and as always, I drilled Jorge with a lot of questions.

Wright not the first to talk politics from pulpit
I woke up and checked my e-mail, as I do every morning, only to find another disgusting chain letter claiming that Sen. Barack Obama is a Muslim who hates America, refuses to hold his hand over his heart during the pledge of allegiance and was inaugurated while placing his hand on the Bible.

Brittany Branyon: Equality in our hearts begins individually
I spent last Friday night at home watching a conversation about race with Brian Williams coupled with a panel live from Howard University.

Brittany Branyon: Environment not priority for oil companies
With the frailty of the economy, the war for oil in the Middle East and growing concern for the state of our planet, the environmental movement is experiencing quite a boost.

Send criminals to church, not to prison
I was talking to my friend Sheldon about last week’s column and he made a great suggestion to me on how we can reform the prison system.

Brittany Branyon: Prisons aren’t always viable solutions
There is something that many Americans are not aware of, and it can mean the difference between justice and oppression.

Brittany Branyon: Issues just part of this election
I watched in amazement as conservative talk show host Bob Cunningham repeatedly referred to Sen. Barack Obama as “Barack Hussein Obama” trying to implement a scare tactic during a Sen. John McCain rally.
