During my decade of service in the Alabama House of Representatives, I have yet to meet a single member of either party who believes the idea of removing the sales tax from groceries is a bad one. However, there is a wide chasm of disagreement between Democrats and Republicans about the best method of doing it.

They can choose to vote for a conservative reformer who splits with his Party on issues important to the citizens he represents, or they can cast a ballot for an inexperienced newcomer with opinions and positions on the far liberal left, well outside those of mainstream Alabamians.

Mike Hubbard: 2008 session one of worst in memory
The 2008 Regular Session of the Alabama Legislature must be considered among the worst in recent memory due largely to the lack of meaningful legislation passed and the Senate’s failure to approve an education budget before adjournment. The few legitimate successes in the session did not result from bills being passed, but from Republican efforts to defeat several bad bills introduced by Democrats.
