Auburn juniors Antonio Coleman and Sen’Derrick Marks have been named to the 2008 Bronko Nagurski Watch List, the Football Writers Association of America announced on Monday.

Coleman and Marks are two of 88 players named to the watch list for the award that goes to the best defensive player in college football. The award, which is sponsored by the Charlotte Touchdown Club, has been presented since 1993 and is awarded in memory of the legendary

Nagurski, a former All-American lineman at Minnesota from 1927-29 and a star for professional football’s Chicago Bears in the 1930s.

Coleman led Auburn and ranked fourth in the SEC in tackles for loss (18.5) in 2007, and his team-high 8.5 quarterback sacks tied for fifth in the conference. He finished the season with 38 tackles (29 solo, nine assists), three pass break-ups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Marks had 43 tackles (20 solo, 23 assists) during the 2007 season while starting all 13 games. He had nine tackles for loss, including a pair of quarterback sacks, seven quarterback hurries, two pass break-ups, a fumble recovery, a forced fumble and an interception. He also blocked two kicks.

The FWAA All-America Committee selects the Bronko Nagurski winner from the association’s 11-man All-America defensive team in November. Players may be added from the Bronko Nagurski Watch List during the course of the 2008 season.

Women’s golfer Clanton named to USA Collegiate golf roster
NORMAN, Okla. — The Golf Coaches Association of American announced the 12-member team for the 2008 Fuji Xerox USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship on Monday, and included on that list is Auburn freshman Cydney Clanton.

“It is an honor for Cydney to represent the United States in this match,” Auburn head coach Kim Evans said. “We are proud that she will be on the team and feel she earned this honor. Cydney will go to Japan in July and represent Auburn and the United States well.”

Team USA leads the all-time series 24-8, and has won the last eight competitions in Japan. Clanton will be the fourth Tiger to represent the United States at this tournament. Missy Tuck (1990), Robin Cook (1998) and Danielle Downey (2000, 2002) were prior players. Cook won the individual title in 1998.

The team – which consists of eight men and four women players – will be coached by Mike Morrow of Kent State and Barry’s Jimmy Stobs.
Clanton is ranked No. 13 in the country and recently finished fourth at the NCAA East Regional (70-75-72—217). Named SEC Freshman of the Year and First-Team All-SEC, Clanton has five top-five finishes this season and seven in the top 10. She leads the No. 11 Tigers with a 73.45 average.

The 33rd annual competition will be held July 16-18 at Tokyo Golf Club.

Clanton and Auburn are set to compete at the NCAA Championship on May 20-23 in Albuquerque, N.M. Auburn earned a spot at the championship after finishing fourth at the NCAA East Regional this past weekend in Athens, Ga.
