TEMPE, Ariz. — The Auburn track and field teams continued to excel during the outdoor season as the Tigers recorded impressive performances at a pair of meets on Saturday, including a new school record in the men’s hammer throw for Cory Martin.

Most of the team competed at the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz., while Martin and a few other throwers competed at the Tiger Invitational in Baton Rouge, La.
In all, the Tigers won eight events at the two meets, had five new regionally qualifying marks and improved on 10 more.

“I’m really pleased with our effort today,” said head coach Ralph Spry. “The weather was good and it gave us an opportunity to line up and compete. Things are really starting to come together. We’ve only got a few more meets until the SEC Championships and I’m really pleased with where we are. Things are clicking just like they should, and we continue to just get better as the season goes on. I’m really excited about where we are and look forward to next week.”

Gangloff wins two silver medals in England
MANCHESTER, England — Former Auburn swimmer and Olympic gold medalist Mark Gangloff captured two silver medals on Sunday, the final day of the 9th FINA World Short Course Championships.

Gangloff started off the session by taking second in the 50m breaststroke, clocking a time of 26.54. He turned around just a short time later and swam the breaststroke leg on the silver-medal winning American 400m medley relay team.

He swam the fastest breaststroke split, touching in at 57.34, helping the United States team to a time of 3:24.38 — a mark that comes in under the old World record and sets an American record in the event.

Former Tiger Bryan Lundquist swam the freestyle leg on the relay during the preliminary, coming in with a 47.24 split to give the U.S. the No. 3 seed in the finals session.
