Starting today, Andrew Gribble will cover Auburn University athletics for the Opelika-Auburn News.
Gribble, 23, comes to the News from Strongsville, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland in which he has lived his entire life.
A recent graduate of Ohio University, Gribble spent the summer covering the Cleveland Indians and other Major League Baseball teams as an associate reporter for MLB.com.
“Covering a professional team day-in and day-out should really benefit in my coverage of the Tigers,” Gribble said. “Of course, it certainly wasn’t as intense nor as fun as covering an SEC team will be.”
Gribble got his feet wet with the South’s passion for football on all levels when he spent five months as a sports reporting intern with The Birmingham News last fall.
“We’re extremely excited to have Andrew join our staff,” sports editor Mike Szvetitz said. “He’s jumping in with both feet and will do very well covering one of the nation’s top athletic programs.”
A news writing and editing major at the E.W. Scripps School of Communication, Gribble covered Ohio football and men’s basketball while also serving as the sports editor of The Post, OU’s daily student-run newspaper.
