AHSAA SOFTBALL: Beauregard sweeps Northside

TUSCALOOSA — Beauregard took out Northside in Tuesday’s first round of the Class 4A Sub-State softball playoffs with a sweep, 7-3 and 6-3.

The Hornets advance to the second round, where they will play Alabama Christian on Saturday.

In Game 1, Jana Cooper earned the win, tossing a complete game in which she gave up four hits.

Cassandra Yarbrough, Peyton DeLong and Felisha Harrelson were each 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Kelsey Rushing was 2-for-3.

In the second game, Yarbrough earned the win, giving up three hits in seven innings, while Aleah Payne was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Rushing was also 2-for-4, while Amy Goodson and Harrelson were each 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Yarbrough was 3-for-3 with two RBI in the win.

Smiths Station routs JD
Smiths Station had an easy time with Jeff Davis in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs.

The Panthers won 11-1 and 22-1 to advance to the second round Saturday at Prattville.

The best-of-three series begins at 1 p.m.

Megan Smith won Game 1 for Smiths Station, while Brittany Forrest hit a two-run home run. Kylie Drury won the second game for the Panthers.

Other Sub-State scores
Class 4A
Dadeville swept Central-Tuscaloosa, 17-1 and 20-1, to advance to the second round Saturday against Andalusia.

Class 5A
Spanish Fort swept Tallassee, 3-0 and 2-0.

Class 6A
Wetumpka needed three games to get past Central, winning Game 1, 9-0, but losing Game 2, 2-0. Wetumpka won the deciding game, 6-0, to advance to the second round.
