AREA ROUNDUP: AHS scores early, cruises past Northside

Auburn High started off hot, then coasted to a 4-0 victory over Northside (Ga.) on Monday night.

The Tigers scored all four runs in the first inning when Whit Dorsey hit a three-run home run and was then followed by Glen Ponder’s solo shot.

Dorsey finished the game 1-for-3 with three RBI and the homer, while Ponder was 2-for-3 with an HR and RBI. Taylor Register was 1-for-3 with a run scored and Crede Simpson was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Harry Haring got the win for the Tigers (11-2), who will play Benjamin Russell at 5 p.m. today in a single game.

Central outlasts Beauregard
BEAUREGARD — Central’s baseball team beat Beauregard, 14-10, Monday.

Michael Abernathy was 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI for the Hornets (6-4) in the loss. Raley Vincent was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

Beauregard will play at Russell County at 4:30 p.m. today.

Springwood sweeps Coosa-Valley
Springwood beat Coosa-Valley in two games Monday, but the story was Rory Spurlock.

Spurlock struck out 15 batters in a 6-1, Game 1 victory. Cole Buchanan earned the save. In Game 2, Springwood (3-1) won 10-3 with Jacob Watkins earning the win.

Central’s Wilson sets course record
Central girls golfer Haley Wilson shot a course record 4-under par 68 on Monday at Auburn Links to lead the Red Devils to victory in the Auburn High Girls Invitational.

Central finished with a team score of 244, while Auburn came is second with a 260. Prattville finished third with a 263.

For the Tigers, Jessica Rouillard carded an 86, while Jennifer Commander and Coleman Humphrey both shot 87s.

Auburn will play Central and Prattville again in a tri-match Thursday at Indian Pines.

AHS boys soccer pitches shutout
The Auburn High boys soccer team improved to 7-3 on the season with a 3-0 win over Benjamin Russell on Monday night.

Jimmy Goldberg, Kobi Enkumah and Ian Dawsey all scored for the Tigers, while goalie Matt Harris earned the shutout.

Auburn will host Opelika at Duck Samford Stadium at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Koullan leads LSA soccer
Mike Koullan scored two goals Monday to pace the Lee-Scott Academy soccer team to a 3-1 win over New Life.

Koullan has now scored seven goals in four games for the Warriors (3-1). Olivia Maddox added the other goal and also had an assist in the win.
Goalie Chase Kincaid had 14 saves for LSA.
