BEAUREGARD — The Sub-State second round draw couldn’t have been any tougher for Beauregard.
And Alabama Christian showed why they’re the state’s top-ranked Class 4A team and constant title contender.
ACA’s bats got hot in Game 1 as the Eagles won, 15-1.
Game 2 wasn’t much better for Beauregard as ACA moved on to the state tournament with a 6-0 win.
“We just ran into a buzzsaw,” Beauregard coach Roger Langford said. “They aren’t ranked No. 1 for nothing.”
Lauren Webster, one of the state’s top pitchers from any classification, shut Beauregard’s bats down in both games.
She allowed just three hits in Game 1 and only five in Game 2.
And while Webster was in control in the circle, the Eagles were pounding out the runs.
In Game 1, ACA built a 7-0 lead it took into the seventh.
Then the Eagles brought 13 to the plate, scoring eight runs for the final, 15-1 margin.
Taylor Mills was 4-for-5 with a homer and Webster was 3-for-5.
Felicia Harrelson was 2-for-3 to lead Beauregard while Cassandra Yarbrough, Peyton Delong and Amy Goodson had hits.
In Game 2, ACA scored two in the first, one each in the second and third and brought two more across in in the fourth for the six-run lead.
Ashley Smith had two doubles to lead ACA at the plate.
Aleah Payne, Kelsey Rushing and Harrelson had hits for Beauregard.
While ACA moves on to the state tournament, Beauregard’s season wraps up at 22-20.
And Langford said it was a season to remember, even though title hopes came up short.
“This was the best season ever for softball at Beauregard,” Langford said. “But all good things have to come to an end.
“The girls came out and laid it on the line, so they can hold their heads high and build on this season.”
In other area AHSAA Sub-State Playoff games, Smiths Station fell at Prattville, 5-1 and 4-0.
Dadeville advanced past Andalusia by winning two-of-three. The Tigers won Game 1, 5-3, then lost Game 2, 3-2, then won, 4-1, in the clincher.
