NOTASULGA — A swing in momentum in Notasulga’s favor was brief Thursday night.
After the Blue Devils had pulled to within 13 points of Talladega County-Central, head coach Roland Bell elected to go with the surprise onside-kick.
The gamble failed, however, as the Tigers picked up the ball and returned it for a score en route to a 43-8 win.
“I told some of the players ‘No team can have the big-stride improvements every single week. Occasionally you’re going to step backwards,’” Bell said. “And that’s what we did this week. We had a bad week of practice, too.”
Steven Ricks threw a 45-yard pass to Eric Pollard in the second quarter, which Pollard fumbled near the goal line.
The Blue Devils were able to fall on the ball in the end zone for their only score of the game.
Notasulga (1-5, 1-3 Class 1A-Region 4) will travel to face Donoho next week.
