Auburn Orange defeated Smiths Station, 9-5, on Monday in Opelika. The victory keeps Auburn Orange alive in the Dixie Youth Majors (11-and-12-year-olds) District 10 Tournament.
Auburn Blue also advanced, beating Tallassee, 11-3, in a winner’s bracket game. Auburn Blue will face Beauregard today.
Beauregard Minors eliminate Smiths Station
SMITHS STATION — The 9-and-10-year-old Beauregard All-Stars beat Smiths Station, 8-7, on Monday to advance in the District 10 Tournament.
Beauregard’s Duck Powell finished 1-for-1, and his only hit was a big one: His RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning drove in the game-winning run.
Heath Senn was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Beauregard. Gage Young was 1-1 for a double and two RBI, Trevor Williams was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI and Trevor May was 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.
Beauregard advances to face Opelika American at 6 p.m. today.
The loss eliminated Smiths Station from the tournament.
Auburn Ponytails stay alive
MONTGOMERY — The 11-and-12-year-old Auburn Ponytails had a busy day in the District 5 Tournament on Monday.
After a 2-0, 10-inning loss to Montgomery Gray in their first game Monday, the Ponytails battled back to defeat Montgomery East, 10-4, Monday night.
In the second game, Reid Campbell and Olivia Selby were each 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Haley Adrian, Savannah Stanley, Lea Hix, Taylor Holland, Tressalyn Reese and AnnaKathryn Prestridge each had a hit for the Ponytails.
Auburn took the first game to extra innings thanks to a strong pitching performance. Adrian struck out 11 batters in six innings, while Morgan Starr added five strikeouts in two innings. Campbell struck out two in two innings.
Montgomery Gray scored two runs in the top of the 10th to take the game and drop the Ponytails to the losers’ bracket, setting up Monday night’s game against Montgomery East.
To win the district tournament that will send Auburn Ponytails to state, Auburn must beat Montgomery Gray twice today. The first game is at 6 p.m. at Felton Little Park.
Auburn Blue routs Tallassee
SMITHS STATION — The 9-and-10-year-old) Auburn Blue Minors defeated Tallassee, 11-1, in the District 10 Tournament on Monday.
Blue won in four innings thanks to the 10-run mercy rule.
Starter Connor Nesmith pitched two perfect innings. His replacement, Travis Arnold, allowed three hits and one run over the next two innings.
Parker Kagel hit a three-run home run for Auburn Blue. Randy Jordan was 1-for-2 with an RBI, Travis Arnold was 2-for-3 with a run scored and Caden Lett was 1-for-2.
Auburn Blue advances to face Auburn Orange at 7:30 p.m. today. Orange defeated Valley, 10-0, on Monday.
Beauregard Majors blank Opelika National
The Beauregard Majors (11-and-12-year-olds) shut out Opelika National, 6-0, in the District 10 Tournament at West Ridge Park in Opelika.
Beauregard advances to play Auburn Blue today at 7:30 p.m.
Pitcher Hunter Hillyer led the way for Beauregard, throwing a complete-game, six-inning shutout. Hillyer threw just 55 pitches in six innings.
Beauregard’s Gavin McCain opened the scoring with a solo home run in the third inning.
