THOMASVILLE — Auburn’s Dixie 14s All-Stars scattered 15 hits and hit five homers to knock off Troy, 23-6, in the state tournament in Thomasville.
Landon Sessions went 3-for-5 with two homers, including a grand slam.
Jack Folmar, Brandon Key and Tracy Brooks also added homers.
Mitchell Roland held a hot hitting Troy team in check.
Roland allowed nine hits, but also struck out eight in six innings of work.
Auburn moves on in the winner’s bracket and will play again today at 8 p.m.
Virginia Legends win ASA 23U National title
The City of Auburn hosted the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Women’s 23under National Softball Tournament this weekend at the Auburn Softball
Complex.
Five teams from around the U.S. competed for the prestigious national title. Several of the participants have competed in past College World Series’.
Awards were given to the top two teams. Virginia Legends from Hampton, Va., won the tournament. Georgia Fire from Lawrenceville, Ga., was runner-up.
Opelika Belles finish third at state tourney
The Opelika Dixie Belles softball team was eliminated from state tournament play on Sunday after an 8-5 loss to AUM.
The loss, following a 3-hour game on Saturday which it won, gave Opelika a third-place finish in the tournament.
In Saturday’s game, Opelika beat Muscle Shoals, 9-7, in 10 innings.
Allie May picked up the win pitching seven innings while striking out eight.
Darian Holmes went 3-for-4 and scored on a wild pitch to secure the win for Opelika.
