Auburn Orange AAAs still alive in state tournament
CLANTON — The Auburn Orange Dixie AAA (9-10) All-Star team beat Alexandria, 6-5, on Monday night to stay alive in the state tournament.
Tyus Flakes hit a two-run home run, while Brad Norman earned the win on the mound with four innings of work to give the Orange its second win of the state event. The All-Star team is now 2-1 in the tournament and will play Clanton at 5:30 p.m. today in the losers’ bracket.
Auburn 14s one win away from state title game
THOMASVILLE — Josh Rogers earned the win for the Auburn Dixie Boys 14-year-old All-Star team Monday against Montgomery American, 8-2, in the state tournament.
The win made Auburn one of three teams with a loss in the state event, forcing a coin toss to determine the play-in and championship games.
Montgomery American won the toss and will play the winner of Auburn-Selma game at 1 p.m. today. Auburn will play Selma in the play-in game at 9 a.m.
Monday night, Auburn was led by Brandon Key, who was 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI. Kyler Deese had two RBI in the win.
