Georgia hands Auburn 14s first Dixie Boys World Series loss

COVINGTON, Ga. — The Auburn Dixie Boys (14) All-Stars fell, 11-5, to Columbia County, Ga., on Sunday to drop to the losers bracket of the Dixie World Series.
Pate Howard was tagged with the loss for Auburn.
Landon Sessions was 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs driven in and a run scored to lead Auburn’s offense, and Brandon Key was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs knocked in.
Tracy Brooks was 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Kyler Deese, Jack Folmar and Chase Edwards all scored runs.
With the loss, Auburn drops to the losers bracket and will face McNairy County, Tenn., today at 4 p.m.
Things were better Saturday night, as Auburn took a 3-1 win over Halifax County, Va., in their opener in a game delayed more than two hours by lightning and rain.
Mitchell Roland pitched six innings for the win, allowing only two hits and striking out five.
Josh Rogers came on for the save, and also batted 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
Deese was 1-for-4 with one RBI, and Roland, Key and Connor Mitchell each batted 1-for-3.
Auburn was able to pick up the win despite getting five runners picked off on base and committing five errors.
