Opelika’s Daniel Glidewell will have his shot at capturing the Southeastern Junior Golf Match Play title.
Glidewell won both of his matches during Thursday’s second and third rounds at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail’s Lake Course. His second match win came in the semifinals, placing him in today’s championship match against McLain Leberte of Huntsville at 7:30 a.m.
Glidewell started his day by beating Hoover’s Michael Manakides, 6 and 4, to reach the semifinals.
He then booked his finals ticket by taking out Atlanta’s John Edge, 3 and 1.
While Glidewell’s day ended in triumph, the same couldn’t be said for defending champion, and former Auburn High golfer Scott Strohmeyer.
Strohmeyer, an Alabama signee, took out Jimmy Kozikowki of Milton, Ga., 7 and 6, in his first match of the day to reach the semifinals.
But Strohmeyer’s run to a second SJGT title ended when he fell to Leberte, 3 and 2, in the semifinals.
In other matches, Edge reached the semifinals by knocking off Auburn’s Will Garner, 6 and 5.
Leberte made the semifinals by defeating Wheaton Hall of of Springfield, Ga., 1-up.
