Sellers, Lee lead SJGT Match Play after first round of medal play

The first day of the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour’s Match Play Championship teed off Monday at Grand National in Opelika with William Sellers and Michael Lee leading the way.
Sellers of Montgomery and Lee of Suwanee, Ga., each fired a 2-under 70 to pace the field on the Lake Course of the Robert Trent Jones Trail property.
After today’s second round of medal play, the top 32 players will advance to a single elimination match play tournament which begins Wednesday.
Sellers and Lee have a one-shot lead over Ted Moon (71) of Lilburn, Ga., Jimmy Kozikowski (71) of Milton, Ga. and Matt Kelly (71) of Atlanta.
Andrew Vanstratum of Cookeville, Tenn., Hogan Vaughn of Huntsville, McLain Leberte of Huntsville, Scott Strohmeyer of Auburn, Taylor Welbon of LaGrange, Ga. and Troy Cook of Phenix City are at 72 and round out the top 10.
Thirty-three players are currently at 77 or better.
Wil Clowdus of Opelika shot a 74 Monday to sit in a tie for fourth in the 14-15 age division, while Opelika’s Jacob Tickal shot a 78.
In the 16-19 age group, Opelika’s Daniel Glidewell shot a 75, while Austin Murphey, also of Opelika, fired a 76. Matthew McLeod of Opelika shot a 77 on Monday.
Auburn’s Will Garner carded a 78, while Gabriel Wang and Kyle Thommesen, also of Auburn, shot 80s. Alex Barnes of Auburn shot an 81, as did Carl Langlois.
Jake McClendon of Auburn is tied for 49th after shooting an 83 in Monday’s first round.
The second-and-final round of medal play begins this morning at Grand National.
