It’s the next step for area Dixie baseball and softball All-Stars.

And that next step is the state tournament.

Beginning today, All-Star teams from the area will begin their bids for state bragging rights.

The Dixie Belles (13-15) softball All-Stars and the Dixie Boys 14s baseball All-Stars begin their state tournaments today. The Dixie Youth baseball AAA (9-10) and Majors (11-12) begin state play on Saturday.

The Dixie Belles tournament will take place at Lagoon Park in Montgomery.

Opelika is the lone local team alive. It will open play at 9 p.m. against Wilcox. Other teams playing include New Brockton, Muscle Shoals, host AUM and South Bibb.

The Belles tournament goes through the weekend with a championship game slated for Monday.

Thomasville will be the site of the Dixie Boys 14s tournament.

Auburn is the lone local team playing, opening against Jackson at 6 p.m.

Prattville, Enterprise, Selma, Montgomery American, West Side, Troy and host North Clarke are the other teams participating.

The 14s championship game is scheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m.
