Wyatt wins Junior Amateur

The Alabama State Junior Amateur Championship wrapped up Thursday at Saugahatchee Country Club, with Bobby Wyatt emerging as the overall champion.

Wyatt, a Mobile native who competed in the 14-15 age division, shot 69-69-65 over the three-day tournament to finish at 13-under par.

Will McCurdy of Ft. Payne finished second overall, five shots behind Wyatt. McCurdy did win the 16-18 age division by one stroke over Auburn’s Scott Strohmeyer.

Stewart Jolly of Birmingham finished second to Wyatt in their age division, shooting 73-68-68 to finish at 7-under par for the tournament.

Alexander Green of Point Clear won the 10-11 age division, which played nine holes each day, by finishing at even par, 18 strokes ahead of his closest competitor, Patrick Martin of Birmingham.

Luke Miller of Mobile won the 12-13 age division with a three day total of 8-over par, two strokes ahead of Taylor McCullum of Hoover and Ingram Tynes and Trevor Page of Birmingham.

Jared Bettcher of Auburn finished fifth, 15 strokes off Miller’s lead.

Michael James of Auburn finished tied for 18th in the 14-15 age division with a total of 13-over, and Jacob Tickal of Opelika finished 22nd.

Daniel Glidewell of Opelika shot a three-day totoal of 1-under par to finish tied for sixth in the 16-18 age group, and Alex Barnes of Auburn and Matthew McLeod of Opelika finished tied for 18th at 6-over.
