Former U.S. Sen. Chuck Hagel has run into a roadblock on his way to being President Barack Obama's new defense secretary: former colleagues in the Senate. GOP lawmakers blocked the Nebraska Republican's confirmation on a mostly party-line vote last week.

Critics say Hagel has been too tough on Israel and not tough enough on Iran; Obama has vowed to obtain Hagel's confirmation, however.
