The Auburn University athletics department is also suspending its normal operations for Wednesday since the school canceled classes after an alleged threat to campus had been investigated Tuesday night.
As of Wednesday morning, the athletics department was in the midst of reaching out to coaches and athletes about practice and meetings set for the day, according to Auburn assistant athletic director of public relations Cassie Arner.
“We’re working under extreme caution for the safety of our student-athletes,” Arner said.
Auburn’s softball game against rival Alabama at 6:30 p.m. at Lagoon Park in Montgomery is the school’s only athletic event scheduled for Wednesday. As of 8 a.m., that game is still scheduled to take place since it’s not being played on Auburn’s campus, according to Arner.
Any athletic department staff member is not prohibited from coming to campus to work Wednesday, but does so of their own volition, Arner said.
The Auburn football team does not have a scheduled practice Wednesday, but did have an early-morning lift period which would have already been in session when the AU Alert cancelling classes came out, Arner said.
The Auburn ticket office is also closed Wednesday.
