Editor’s Note: In the days leading to the first day of Auburn's spring football practice Tues. March 18, the Opelika-Auburn News will provide a positional grouping breakdown as the Tigers enter the second spring under head coach Gus Malzahn. The nine-day series started last Sunday with a look at Auburn’s quarterbacks. Saturday’s breakdown will look at a still-loaded Tigers’ backfield despite the loss of record-breaking tailback Tre Mason. Sunday will focus on the secondary.

The biggest impact of any individual last season came from Auburn’s jam-packed backfield when eventual Heisman Trophy finalist Tre Mason emerged in the Tigers’ lone loss, rushing for 132 yards and two scores against LSU.
