It’s been a couple months since Auburn defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson saw “The Hit,” but he can’t forget the image of South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney pulverizing Michigan’s running back.
Johnson, like most defensive coaches, thought Clowney’s tackle was textbook. There was no intent to hit Michigan’s Vincent Smith in the head, Johnson said. He coached Clowney as a freshman at South Carolina in 2011. He knows Clowney wasn’t trying to hurt anybody.
