OPELIKA AT NO. 4 AUBURN HIGH

The area’s biggest rivalry just got bigger. Auburn High and Opelika will face off in the postseason for the first time ever tonight. The winner advances to the Class 6A semifinals — somewhere the Tigers were in 2009 and the Bulldogs were in 2005 and 2006. It will be interesting to see how the atmosphere of this game compares to the first Opelika-Auburn game and the Auburn-Carver game that was televised on ESPNU. Have there ever been three games of that magnitude in one high school stadium in the same season? And if the Tigers win, there’s a chance they could host Spain Park in a semifinal game the next week. The Duck will be rocking tonight — with Opelika and Auburn fans — and it should be a great game. The Tigers won the first meeting by 9 points four weeks ago, but beating a rival twice in one season isn’t easy.
