In search of some quality bar food in the middle of a long day at work, I walked into DeRailed Bar & Grill and plopped down on a stool by the bar. A sign hanging from a nearby cabinet immediately caught my eye:
“Twenty-four beers in a case. 24 hours in a day. Coincidence? I think not!”
An astute observation, DeRailed. I like the way you think.
It was about 5:30 p.m. on a Wednesday, so I was not about to put this restaurant’s theory to the test. I did, however, consider the sign a tone-setter of sorts for the dimly lit venue. As I ordered some mild buffalo wings and eavesdropped on a conversation across the bar in which some patrons debated the area’s best BBQ joints, I began to take in the atmosphere at DeRailed.
There’s something for every late-night goer: a pool table in one corner, a live music setup in the other. A piano hugs a wall with an old school jukebox beside it. TV screens line the face of the bar while a massive projector screen off to the side helps make it an ideal spot for watching a big Auburn game. There was even a fish tank in the back.
In short, the restaurant’s character works toward creating a space that seems far from the drudgery of daily routine. Kick back, wind down and have a good time: this is the vibe at DeRailed.
But back to the real reason I stopped by: the food. You can gather pretty much all you need to know about a bar from its wings and fries, and DeRailed passed my litmus test with flying colors. The mild buffalo wings, while a bit small, were tasty and succulent. The fries were a solid compliment. The restaurant also offers a wide array of pizza and burger options, but I saved that for next time.
Whether in search of a midday break, late-night good times or just a spot to get some good bar food, DeRailed Bar & Grill is well worth a try.
