The Hound

A large strawberry farro salad with blacked chicken from The Hound in Auburn.

I don’t think I have met a salad that I do not like. However, rarely do I find a salad that I love.

Being the salad connoisseur that I am, I noticed The Hound had an almost entirely new menu that featured, you guessed it, a new salad.

Thankfully, my best friend Emma was back in town for the weekend and came with a special guest, her mom Tina. We used Tina’s visit as an excuse to go to The Hound over the weekend and try out its new menu.

The Hound’s menu has numerous new items including Stuffed Porkbelly, Chile Pickled Shrimp, Gochujang BBQ Pork Ribs and a Strawberry Farro Salad.

Don’t worry, The Hound kept its classics on the menu, including its meatloaf.

The three of us were starving when we arrived at The Hound and needed an appetizer to sustain us. We decided to try the Fried Green Beans.

I already knew what I was getting the moment I walked in — a large Strawberry Farro Salad with blackened chicken.

The large salad plus the chicken came to $19, a little pricy for a salad, but hey if it’s a good salad, I won’t complain.

Emma decided to get Chicken Fried Steak while Tina decided to get the BTA. Our appetizer came out shortly after we placed our dinner order.

The green beans smelled amazing and were very fresh. They were probably some of the best fried green beans I have ever had. The beans also came with Comeback Sauce.

Let me tell you, I will be coming back for some more Comeback Sauce. It was just spicy enough to add a little extra flavor. It didn’t take long for our entrees to follow.

It was love at first sight when my giant bowl of salad was put in front of me. The bowl was full of leafy greens, strawberries, farro, avocado, pecans, feta, pickled red onions and the blackened chicken I added. I asked for my dressing on the side, a strawberry-white balsamic vinaigrette.

Once I took my first bite, I knew it was true love. The salad was perfect in every single way. The toppings were numerous, the chicken was excellent and the dressing was divine. When I first saw the bowl, I thought to myself there was no way I could finish the entire thing.

I was wrong. I was a member of the clean plate club that evening. The salad left me full, but not to the point where I felt sick from eating too much.

Emma and her mom both loved their meals. They each had to stop themselves from eating their entire dinner because they were so full they were going to feel sick if they kept eating.

Without a doubt, you will find me at The Hound again, chowing down on this salad before it’s gone.
