Elijah Daniel, a defensive end for the Auburn University football team, was arrested Wednesday on several theft and burglary charges.
Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones confirmed Wednesday evening that Daniel, 21, was booked in the Lee County Detention Center just before 9 p.m. Wednesday on one count of first-degree theft; one count of second-degree theft; two counts of third-degree theft; one count of second-degree burglary and three counts of third-degree burglary. Jones said all eight charges are felonies except for the two counts of third-degree theft, which are misdemeanors. His bond totaled $24,000.
Jones said Daniel was brought to the detention center by the Auburn Police Division. Attempts to reach the APD Wednesday night were unsuccessful.
Auburn head football coach Gus Malzahn said in a statement to the Opelika-Auburn News, “I am aware of the situation and Elijah has been suspended indefinitely from our team.”
